Another important question concerns the mechanism by which a polyubiquitinated substrate is released from the Cdc48 complex and passed on to downstream components, such as the proteasome. There are at least three proposed models. In the first, a ubiquitinated substrate is transferred by ubiquitin-bi

Material and methods Results Discussion This study explores the hypothesis that ASK1, via transcriptional upregulation by E2F1, molecularly defines AT that supports a dys-metabolic obese phenotype in humans. We demonstrate associations between increased visceral-AT ASK1 expression and multi

While increased arginase levels has been shown in animal models and in humans with cardiovascular dysfunction [16], [22], [23], it is unknown whether plasma levels or activity of Arginase may predict ED risk. In addition, recent evidence suggests that plasma l-arginine hydrolysis by arginases limits

  2023-09-15

Currently, NSAIDs which achieve antineoplastic actions mainly through apoptosis are emerging choice in chemotherapy. Their antineoplastic effects were demonstrated before in tumor-bearing models [5], [6], [7]. Through in vitro cell models, we identified an indomethacin-activation of ceramide/PP2A/Ak

Implications for cancer ROS have a long history of being involved in the development and progression of cancer and increased ROS level is considered as a hallmark of many tumors [76], [77]. Initially, it was thought that ROS would serve as chemical mutagens that would indiscriminately damage cell

MADS box proteins in plants, a flourishing family In contrast to animals, homeotic genes in plants do not code for homeodomain-containing proteins, but rather, in almost all cases, for MADS domain proteins. The sequencing of the genome of Arabidopsis thaliana revealed more than 100 putative MADS

HMG proteins: mobile modulators of chromatin structure and cellular phenotype The term “High Mobility Group” was originally coined for the HMG proteins because of their unusual solubility properties, their small size and their rapid mobility, relative to other chromatin proteins, during gel elect

Introduction Heterotrimeric Gαβγ proteins mediate signal transduction through seven-transmembrane domain receptors. In response to neurotransmitters or hormones, activated receptors bind GTP via the Gα subunit leading to the dissociation of Gα from the Gβγ dimer. G proteins regulate the levels of s

  2023-09-15

Recent studies have supported the existence of an inward RAS regulatory mechanism in which AT1 receptors downregulate angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (ACE2) and subsequently impair angiotensin-(1-7) generation and MAS functionality (Jessup et al., 2006, Gallagher et al., 2008, Xia et al., 2009, Pern

Selective Androgen Receptor Modulators (SARMs) The AR and its endogenous ligands, androgens, are important for development and maintenance of muscle and bone, secondary sexual organs, and development of other tissues (Mooradian et al., 1987). It has been known for a while that oxygenation (the addition of oxygen) of Aβ can inhibit the formation of amyloids and diminish their cytotoxicity. Photo-oxygenation of Aβ started with fullerenes almost a decade ago by Toshima and co-workers. Later, porphyrins and polyoxometalates were used as well

• AMPK is a central regulator

  2023-09-15

AMPK is a central regulator of cell growth, migration, metabolism, autophagy, and cell polarity [20], [21], [22], [23]. It is highly conserved in eukaryotes and functions as the primary sensor of intracellular adenosine nucleotides [24]. When intracellular ATP levels decrease, AMPK is activated to g

Recent results suggest that TARPs are not the only auxiliary AMPAR subunits. Using a proteomic strategy (affinity purification of native AMPAR complexes followed by mass-spectrometric analysis), cornichon-related proteins (CNIHs) have been recently identified as components of the AMPAR protein micro
